This week in Orlando, 800+ students and adults will gather for SonPower 2014 – our annual music and worship experience for student choirs. This year promises to be an exceptional event with Meredith Andrews serving as our worship leader and Grant Norsworthy as our Bible Study leader. Wow!
Dennis and Nan Allen provide the creative leadership for the music with contemporary arrangements of great songs combined with new songs written by Dennis and Nan. The week includes mission opportunities in the Orlando area and yes – even some fun!
We’ve done SonPower for years, and it still is a fantastic way to encourage your students to sing praise to the Lord with their voices and with their hearts. I believe strongly that we have to intentionally and energetically raise up the next generation of worshipers and worship leaders. I believe any church that has a single teenager or more can be doing something to invest in the future of these students.
So, what is your church doing?
If you don’t have a student choir, gather a few around you and do something with them that engages them in leading worship – a drama, or solo – a small praise team or a band or a choir – do something! If they don’t engage while they are teenagers, studies have proven they likely never will. The stakes are high. We cannot afford to lose this one.
So, this week, pray for our team at SonPower and consider going with your church next year. And, think about your church and what you are doing to encourage students to worship God with their praise and service. If the answer is “not much” then do something about that!
Before it’s too late.
