Artist: Tommy Walker
Album: Living In the Wonder
Label: LifeWay Songs
Over the course of the past 20 years, Tommy Walker has written many of the most recognizable and widely sung songs of the Church. People all over the Earth have been singing his great worship songs, including He Knows My Name, That’s Why We Praise Him, We Will Remember, Only A God Like You, and many more.
Tommy’s new release, “Living In the Wonder”, is filled with the same kind of powerful proclamations of truth and praise that churches everywhere have come to expect from both his heart and ministry. Produced by long-time friend, Ed Cash, this new collection of songs centers on the themes of seeking and waiting on the Lord, living in fear and reverence of who He is, and anticipating the day when we will see Him again.
The energetic, fresh, and fun-filled rhythms of These Are the Names of God, Make A Joyful Noise, and Look What Happens are balanced well by Tommy’s soulful heart, evidenced in songs like Sing It Over Me, I Love the Lord, and Going Home. Creative and captivating are the brilliant amalgamations of jazz, classical, and gospel found in some of the new anthemic ballads including, The Fear of the Lord and On You, My God, I’ll Wait.
The closing moment of the album is a truly inspired, unique and unforgettable moment. Co-written by Tommy and his life-long mentor/hero, Andrae Crouch, Someday is a sweet cry of the heart that longs for Heaven. Written shortly after the passing of Tommy’s mother, this song gets in your bloodstream like few others and steers your heart toward home.
As has been the case for the past two decades, congregations everywhere will be singing these songs over and over. There’s something real, approachable and transformational about the music and the message in every measure. This offering – from one of the all-time great veterans of this age of praise and worship – is one every worship leader should own. The songs are born out of, and enriched by, Tommy’s local church ministry. The anointing of God’s Spirit is undeniable!
