Several years ago my concern began to grow about the outcome many churches are experiencing NOW after deleting children’s choirs years before. Simply stated, our kids are growing up with little to no understanding of how or why we sing.
I would challenge EVERY music leader to closely examine how you are preparing future generations to engage and lead the musical worship of the Church. It’s our responsibility and one we should take very seriously.
It is this burden that led us to create Children’s Worship Series — CWS. It is more than a set of resources – it is a heart-felt conviction that we have to do everything we can to equip churches to do this well.
That’s exactly why our team will often point to resources beyond our own to help a church develop and execute a strategy to help children learn to love singing about Jesus. Around August 15, we will be releasing a teaching plan (with a variety of resources) to help churches navigate this upcoming year… these resources will be easily found at Lifeway.com/Worship. Our music representatives will be able to point leaders to resources across the spectrum of Church Music and offer encouragement and suggestions on starting and growing a children’s choir ministry.
We have already released a Christmas resource this year for CWS called, “Follow the Star.” Online teaching plans are available for FREE to turn this collection into a full semester of teaching and training the next generation of worshippers and leaders. In November’s Red Box, we have a number of releases for children’s choirs along with more titles in the popular Multi-Generational anthem series.
Some skeptics might ask, “Why is LifeWay spending so much time and effort in the children’s choir space when many churches have stopped doing choirs?” The answer is clear – because we’re convinced this ministry is too vital to do anything less than all we can to help churches succeed in this work.
So, what’s the secret sauce? Do it. Start a children’s choir – if it’s for five or 500. Find a way to inspire children to learn how and why we sing about Jesus. There is no one perfect way to do it. We have options. If you need assistance, call us.
We’re here for you and want to help.
