I love weddings. And the more I read what the Bible says about weddings, the more I love them. Simply put, weddings are the example God chose to illustrate what the return of Jesus will be like. I can hardly wait for that one! Anyone in church ministry spends quite a bit of time involved in weddings. One church I was blessed to serve had three chapel spaces and averaged three weddings a Saturday all year long! Oh my!
This past May, my daughter Elizabeth got married.
Now, I had done this before. My son Lee married his high school sweetheart, Jenna, in December 2010. It was a joy to watch my son take a wife. I was thrilled. And, hopefully I’ll do it again. My youngest son John, we pray, will find the one God has for him all in due time.
But marrying off my daughter was totally different. You see, for all of her 22 years, I had been the man of her life. And then, some upstart came in and took my girl away! Well, it wasn’t quite that bad. We love Thomas and are grateful for his marriage with Elizabeth. He is a fine young man from a wonderful family of faith. We enjoyed every moment of their wedding. It was a wonderful celebration of love and faith and the Lord who brought them together. I cherished every second of it all, including all the days leading up to the wedding.
Oh that we could live every day like that – cherishing every second leading up to the wedding of the ages – when Jesus takes his bride to be with Him forever!
Listen today for the voice of your groom and long for the day when we will see Him face to face!
