Because God Commands Us to Gather and Sing
The word “sing” is mentioned over 100 times in the bible. To “sing to the Lord” is the most repeated commandment.
Psalm 149:1 – Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints
Psalm 95:1 – Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation 95:6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down
Psalm 34:3 – Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together
Psalm 63:4 – I will praise you as long as I live and in your name I will lift up my hands
Ephesians 5:19 – Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord
Hebrews 10:25 – Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the day approaching
Hebrews 13:15 – By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name
Why is singing so important to God? So important that He Himself sings and repeatedly tells us to? I believe there are two reasons:
– Singing God’s truth has a unique way of helping us internalize it like nothing else!
– Because it’s beautiful and God likes beauty, period!
