Each morning, on the way to school, my little boys and I read and discuss a sports-related devotional* (no, I do not read it WHILE driving… only while sitting at stoplights). This morning, the devotion was about doubting the decisions we make… Have you ever made a bad decision while playing in a game? Were you criticized? Did you doubt yourself? Do you wish you could have a “do over”? We’ve all experienced moments like this whether in sports, work and even, worship-related moments.
These questions lead to the Biblical part of the devotion discussing the fact that when it comes to Jesus, all of us have made the decision to either accept Jesus or reject Jesus. And, if based on that decision, the question was asked, “Are you sure you’ve made the right decision?”
At the end of the devotional, it engages the children by asking questions. The one question that stood out today was, “What would it take to get you to switch to the other side?” When I asked my little boys what it would take to get them to switch to the other side they responded, “Nothing. We’ve decided to follow Jesus.” Well, AMEN. Thankfully, my family has decided to follow Jesus.
The author of the devotional quoted the song, “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” …
“I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back. No turning back.”
Do you know someone that is doubting their decision… whether they follow Jesus or don’t? Someone in your neighborhood? Choir? Even, your staff? If the answer is yes, and you have made the decision to follow Jesus, I encourage you to remind them of how certain you are in your decision.
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”
