Summary of Does the Church Organ Need to Go?: A few months ago, Mike Harland wrote a blog called, “Does the Church Organ Need to Go?” — a topic close to Mike’s heart AND a topic that received the most reaction from our readers. What we found is that we hit on a subject that is near and dear to so many. It also created a conversation on the changing role of the church organ (and a few reasons why we think the role has changed). The church organ is often associated with a traditional style of music and not necessarily included when music styles change, but the organ can (and should) make the musical journey because it’s really about congregational worship and helping the congregation participate in worship.
