There are moments in life when circumstances take a sudden and unforeseen turn. In an instant, everything seems completely insignificant when weighed against the enormity of the unexpected. Jaci Velasquez is no stranger to such an occurrence. When her child, Zealand, was in second grade, doctors delivered a diagnosis of autism. This moment left Jaci and her family undone and driven to their knees.
What they learned about faith, prayer, and the grace of God in this season has been beautifully and powerfully chronicled in Jaci’s first album in better than five years. Recorded in both English and Spanish, this release, entitled “Trust“, or “Confio” (in Spanish) from Integrity Music gets straight to the heart of the intersection of life and belief. Where pain and grace collide, God’s glory is revealed and Jaci boldly proclaims this truth at every turn of this album.
Long-time fans of Jaci will quickly note that she is sounding better than ever! The pop/CCM center of the project is the ideal home for her vocal artistry and packs a lot of punch around her heartfelt message. Producers, David Leonard and Chris Bevins have created a deeply impactful collection of music and ministry.
One new song, in particular, is one I expect will resonate with the Church is the anthem, “Lay It At the Cross“. Centered on the power of the sacrificial crucifixion of Jesus, this song is filled with rich theology and is marked by a melody that sticks quickly. I can easily envision countless churches singing this song during the approaching Easter season and for years to come.
Jaci is back- and she’s clearly on a new mission! So, join her on her journey and get this album soon. Your soul will be encouraged as you embrace such honesty and creativity.
