With the release of their newest album, Sing Noël, Point of Grace wanted to spend a few minutes – through music and devotions – reminding us to remember WHO the Christmas season is all about. We hope you love their devotional words as you begin to get into the Christmas spirit.
During the holidays, it is not uncommon to “come together.” It might be around a dinner table, a Christmas party, a church event, or even someone’s home. For Point of Grace, we “come together” by packing our bags and hitting the road to start our Christmas tour.
We love being on tour at Christmas. It is extremely rewarding for us, and our kids don’t want to be anywhere else. The tour bus is where the kids “come together” and have a blast. They enjoy playing and eating (all day and night) on the bus and they love decorating the bus. They especially love being on stage with us. Each day is full of anticipation – Will there be snow in the next city? What hotel are we staying at? What will they be doing in the next city? Whatever it is, they can’t wait because it is going to be adventurous and GLORIOUS!!!
There is something to be said about living with that kind of anticipation and excitement for what is to come.
I would imagine such anticipation for the wise men. They had been waiting and hoping for quite some time for a sign that the Messiah had come. When they finally saw the star in the east, they REJOICED with GREAT joy!!
We also have the story of the shepherds. While they were out in the fields keeping watch over their flocks by night, an angel of the Lord appeared to them. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:10-12 (CSB)
This news was so important and exciting it caused even a host of angels to “come together” and celebrate. “Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors! Luke 2:13-14 (CSB)
As a result, the Christmas story caused the shepherds, angels, and eventually, the wise men to “come together…” to come and worship the newborn King. No ordinary King, but the one and only King to save the world from ALL sin. Amazingly enough, 2,000 years later, we still celebrate that night. Because it was that night that God loved the world so much that He chose to give His only son, Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us.
So, this Christmas as you “come together” – with anticipation – with those you love, remember the real story of Christmas… the story the angels declared… “Come and worship Christ, the newborn King!” It will be GLORIOUS!!!
