#3: Blessed Be Your Name
Blessed Be Your Name was released in 2002 in two versions, one on Matt Redman’s album “Where Angels Fear to Tread,” and one sung by Tim Hughes on the “Glimpses Of Glory: Soul Survivor Live 2002″ release. Since then, the song has slowly and steadily weaved its way into the worship lives of churches around the world.
Musically, it’s very simple, and there’s a reason for that. It was written in the shadow of September 11th. Here’s how Tomlin describes its genesis:
“It struck me how little a vocabulary we have in church worship music to respond appropriately in dark times of life,” Matt says. “We all face seasons of pain and unease. And in those times we need to find our voice before God. The church, and indeed the world, needs songs of lamentation.”
2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, and might be a good time to introduce your church to a song that helps them express the permanence of God, no matter the circumstance.
