I’m going to play the “Director Card” one time in this process. There is one song that MUST be on the list… “All Is Well.” (by M.W. Smith and W. Kirkpatrick)
It’s Hymn #204.
Why was that one so important to me? For one thing, it’s simply beautiful. But the other reason is that it represents a heart-felt conviction I have about this era we are living in right now.
Even a superficial view of our world would suggest that all is not well. Violence erupts everyday. Racial tensions are high across cultures and cities. Political unrest and divisive issues abound.
People are killing each other over court decisions and sports outcomes. The economy continues to struggle and people are hurting. There are protests and car bombs – terrorism and plane crashes – scandals and debauchery on every side. Surely all is not well.
And yet it is.
Because Jesus is here. He came to bring peace, mercy, love, forgiveness, healing and hope. And He has the power to do it. And, He is and does – in the small, unseen ways – the hard to measure ways. Because God has kept every promise He has ever made, we know He will keep this one too – that He will come again – a second Advent – and will make everything as it should be.
This part is temporary. Cancer will end – so will death. Divorce, war, hunger, and homelessness – all will go away. And He will come again. Until He does, He will give us the grace to endure whatever comes our way. We can trust Him and tell everyone we know to trust Him too. He is our Savior. He was born on that first Christmas. We might as well sing.
All Is Well.
