It’s crazy to think about. In the 1989 classic movie, “Back to the Future 2,” Marty McFly learns that in 2015, the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Now, you baseball fans out there know that in 1989 that would have been a real pipe dream. The Cubs franchise has suffered for over a hundred years as a perennial loser. Over the years they’ve had the “Curse of the Bambino,” the “Black Cat Curse,” and the “Goat Curse” as well as the “Bartman” game, just to add insult to injury. In the movie, projecting them to win it all was comedic relief.
Here we are in 2015! The Cubs have won the first two rounds of the playoffs and are in the National League Championship Series. Four more wins and they are in the World Series. Eight more wins and they WIN IT ALL – just like the movie predicted!
Life has a way of imitating art.
There is another story happening right now that means much more to us – the story of the Creator of the Universe bringing all of history to the ultimate climax. And, in a much grander scale, this story has been foretold by a source much more significant that Hollywood storytellers. It is in the Word of God… the most provable and reliable source in all of human history. Every word has proven to be absolutely correct time after time. There is no reason to doubt it now.
When Harry Carey was the announcer for Cubs’ broadcasts, he would end every victorious game with his iconic, “Cubs win! Cubs win!”
We’ve seen the future. As we approach the culmination of the age – and every day it draws nearer – we have the delightful joy of announcing to the world, “Jesus wins! Jesus wins!”
And we don’t even have to build a time machine to do it.
