June 6 may be “D-Day” for all Americans, but at my house, June 3 is “C Day.” Because 17 years ago today, four skillful surgeons worked on my best girl for seven hours to eradicate the breast cancer that was threatening her life. I will forever be thankful to the Lord for the supernatural way He allowed us to find the cancer before it was too late!
On the night of the surgery, several hours after she was back in the room, a wonderful grandmother-type nurse came in to check on Teresa. As she was reviewing the chart, she noticed the name of the plastic surgeon that was handling Teresa’s case. She said, “Oh, I see you have Dr. Wallace as your plastic surgeon. That’s great. He does beautiful work.” Over the next few days, this same saintly nurse repeated that statement multiple times. Before long, Teresa and I were both talking about this fine doctor and his well acclaimed, “beautiful work.”
Let me say here that she was right! Though the journey was hard for the next several months, Dr. Wallace used his skill as a surgeon to help Teresa recover physically from the traumatic surgery she underwent to remove the cancer.
But there was someone else doing an even greater work of beauty in Teresa’s life. The experience of facing cancer as a young mother was just a scalpel in the hands of the “Master Surgeon” doing His masterwork. And He was working on this young husband, too.
Today, Teresa is a beautiful lady is every respect. The nurse was right when she said Dr. Wallace does beautiful work. But, I’m even more amazed by the love of a Heavenly Father who comes inside the moments of our lives to work His plan and purpose.
Seventeen years after “C-Day,” I give God praise again for what He has done and what He is doing.
HE DOES BEAUTIFUL WORK.
