Language is an amazing thing.
We call it “linguistics.” It’s the analysis of how language is developed and used in human culture. I’m no “linguist,” but I have observed something that fascinates me.
And, that’s I – the use of the word, “Right.” It seems this little word we have known for so long has recently come into the public discourse like a giant hit on the radio or a blockbuster movie – right?!
Almost every conversation these days has someone using the word at the end of sentences. This phenomenon must be contagious because I’m noticing it so much that it is about to drive me nuts. I actually caught myself doing it the other day and had to admit that, apparently, what I hear around me influences me more than I’d like to admit.
But, what if…
What if we could start another phenomenon that could be as contagious as using the word, “Right?!” What if – just by choosing individually to fully engage in the corporate worship of our congregations – we could start a movement of churches filled with active and enthusiastic participants in congregational singing.
I suspect if we could, we just might rediscover the power of the Gospel being sung by the body of Christ… more people would believe because they would not only hear the truth; they would see the impact of the truth on our souls as our songs of faith fill the air.
It just might work. And you could start it right where you are by being the first person on your pew to start singing. It’s worth a shot – for the sake of the Gospel and for the honor of our King.
