What are the “must haves” in worship? What are the elements that, without them, everything else we do will be futile? Well, we would agree quickly that a right view of Jesus is where worship begins. But, there are plenty of people who would attest to a biblical view of Christ that sometimes find it hard to open their mouths in praise.
What is the key that unlocks the gate of worship? The Psalmist gives it to us in Psalm 100:4 –
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. (CSB)
So, there it is – gratitude is the key that unlocks our praise. I can’t tell you how many times this verse has proven to be true in my life. I can be overwhelmed, confused, tired, distracted, and out of sorts, but if I will start thanking God for his many provisions in my life, very soon my praise will follow.
Thank Him for…
… life, health, strength, and the very breath you breathe.
… freedom, opportunities, security, and the talent you have to offer him.
… family, friends, co-workers, and the place to serve Him with your life.
… the hardships He has brought you through and the lessons learned along the way.
… grace, mercy, forgiveness, and the presence of His Spirit.
… power, vision, calling, and His faithfulness to you in ministry.
Are you inside the gate yet? Have you entered the court of praise? If not, go back to the top and start over.
We will enjoy Thanksgiving this week. It’s a time for celebration and an occasion to gather with our loved ones. We will enjoy the freedoms of our country and the traditions of the season. There will be food and laughter, joy for the present, sorrow for those absent, and hope for the Advent of One who has come and is coming again.
You are welcome at this table. Take the key of gratitude an unlock your praise this Thanksgiving.
