Most Fridays, WorshipLife.com and Craig Adams, Creative Director for LifeWay Worship, will be reviewing the latest worship albums released from various artists within the Christian music recording industry.
Craig, a recipient of multiple Dove Awards, has produced and/or participated in more than 3,500 recordings for artists, record labels, music publishers, tv/film, and radio over the past 35 years. In addition, his vast experience in music production, local church worship ministry, and musical direction for live events, along with his work at LifeWay Worship, gives him the talent, experience, and credibility to not only listen, but really hear, what each album delivers to the listeners.
Thank you, Shelly, for being Craig’s first “official” WorshipLife review!
Artist: Shelly E. Johnson
Album: Your Kingdom Come
Label: LifeWay Songs
Once in a great while, an album of new worship songs comes along, and I find myself taken equally by the songs and production value. Shelly E. Johnson’s recent album release, “Your Kingdom Come” is just such an occasion.
Look into Shelly’s life and career and you will very quickly discover that she is in, of, by, and for the Church. She has been leading worship in churches for many years. Her practical experience is enriched by an artistic one-of-a-kind songwriting/singing signature — both have been captured succinctly on this album by producer, Michael Farren.
Shelly’s unabashed zeal for the Lord shines through on songs, like Kingdom Come, Sound of Heaven, and Hallelujah to the King. Her heart and passion are evidenced in other songs, like Overwhelmed, Power of the Cross, and He Is Good To Us. Her desire to see a great awakening resounds in every measure of Church Arise and Passion of Our Hearts.
The guitar-driven sonic environment of much of the album is brilliantly offset, at times, by more intimate piano-side moments that are refreshing, inspiring, and moving. Much of the project is infused with collaborative creativity — a modernistic collision of the talents of Shelly and her co-writing friends, Michael Farren, Sean Hill, and Jason Dyba.
If you’re looking for new songs for your church to sing, or are an avid fan of great worship music, Shelly E. Johnson’s new, “Kingdom Come” is a must-have!
