“Let Us Be” Devotion – By Denise Jones, Point of Grace

October 24, 2017 3 Comments

With the release of their newest album, Sing Noël, Point of Grace wanted to spend a few minutes – through music and devotions – reminding us to remember WHO the Christmas season is all about. We hope you love their devotional words as you begin to get into the Christmas spirit.

“Let Us Be”

Our world is full of darkness. Most people would not argue that fact. So many people are hurting and just looking for a tiny glimmer of hope to make it through another day. When I heard the song “Let Us Be,” I knew this would be the song to close out our shows — It’s an anthem for believers to remind us we have a beautiful opportunity to be the bearers of PEACE, JOY, and LIGHT to the world.

Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your LIGHT shine before others, that they may SEE your good deeds and GLORIFY your Father in heaven.

This verse used to add stress to my life and allowed guilt to come knocking on my door. The voices said…

You aren’t shining very brightly. You need to do a lot more if you want to please God. Look at _____. She is so much better at _______ than you.

If you were a better Christian, you would be much better at _______.

And any day these blanks would be filled in with different answers.

I found myself with no flicker of light. I was so busy trying to be like everyone else, that I was exhausted. My desire was to be a light, but I had no resources to draw from. It felt as though my lantern had burned out.

Had I really forgotten the basics of the Gospel? I am not the light. JESUS is the Light of the World. I am just a bearer of the Light.

John 15:5

I am the vine, you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.

Both shining light and bearing fruit require me to REMAIN connected. Time with Him, praying and reading His Word, and listening to sermons or music are all ways He pours Himself into me. When I am not relying on Jesus for my source of joy, peace, hope and grace, how can I give it to anyone else?

Everyone has their own way to share the love of God with others. Some days, it might be as simple as a smile or a kind word. Other times, we may be required to sacrifice time, talent, or money to make someone’s world a better place. Again, we can’t do any of it without Jesus. Let us be willing to plug in to the power outlet, shine some light into the dark places, and offer a taste of the goodness of His grace, hope, and love. So that all will see and come to adore the One who adores us.

Such great insight! Jesus IS the light! We only need to reflect Him in the personality He has given us, not what He has given someone else. That takes the pressure off. Live in Christ daily and shine His light! Thank you Denise for this! What an awesome song😇

I have the Sing Noel cd from Lifeway and they said there is no soundtrack available at this time. I am interested in Let Us Be. I assume I will have to wait until next Christmas for this to be available?

I’m enjoying listening to your new album, and glad I got to see you at Lifeway in Asheville, I enjoyed talking to Denise. I wish you would come to my church some day and do a concert that would be great.
