SonPower 2014 starts Monday in Orlando, FL. I’m excited…and a little daunted! Hundreds of students and their leaders from far and wide will gather for a week of music rehearsals, mission activities, inspiring musical worship and Bible teaching. It’s the Bible Teaching part that I am mainly responsible for. It’s a huge and important responsibility…that’s why I am a little daunted.
Throughout the week, I’ll be teaching five Bible sessions in front of a big bunch of excited teens. My desire is to engage and inspire as I point them towards truth drawn from scripture. No pressure!
Some days, it’s easy to get overwhelmed as I think about all that’s going on in my life and in the lives of the teens I’ll be teaching. Even as I prepare, I think of the ever-important task in front of me…how do I engage the Millennial iGeneration (made up of short-attention-spanned, instantly gratified, insta-web, posting, and tweeting adolescents) armed with only an ancient, sometimes-confusing, easily-misunderstood text and an Aussie accent?
BUT! Know that I am comforted by this fact: It’s not up to me! All I have to do is get out of the way. The scripture – the written Word of God – is a portal through which Jesus Himself – the Living Word of God – will engage and inspire, heal and change. By His Holy Spirit, God Himself reaches through the words on the page (or the text on the glowing screen of an iPad) in ways I cannot fathom, nor could ever hope to control. Please pray for me so I can discern how best to get out of the way and let God do what He wills in and through the students, their leaders and me while at SonPower 2014.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
